RLS PhotosDo your legs ever feel like they are trying to run a marathon while you are trying to sleep? It’s kinda like your legs have a mind of their own, like two stubborn kids who would rather be out running around than sleeping. What you have is called Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and it basically means your legs want to party all night long. Which is great if you are indeed a party goer, but if you were, you wouldn’t be here right now reading this article. You need your legs to sleep, to rest. Well, lets talk about a few things that might help you get a better, restless free night.

RLS causes a restless sensation in the legs, and can result in serious sleep deprivation, disrupt everyday life and activities, leading to high blood pressure, and cause erectile dysfunction in men.  RLS sufferers can feel an abnormally uncomfortable tingling or crawling sensations in the legs, this normal happens when you are trying to sleep. A lot of RLS sufferers find that exercise can give them a relief, but this will only last for a short amount of time.

Massaging the legs helps to release dopamine which help your legs to relax, causing more blood flow to the calves and quads which are prone to RLS. When you talk to your massage therapist about RLS, discuss the symptoms and times you are feeling restless in the legs. This will help to better understand your form of RLS, and what would be the best form of treatment for you.

While the cause of RLS is unknown, researchers have uncovered a link to low levels of iron or dopamine in the brain. Genetics may also be a factor. Massage is a proven way to help RLS suffers decrease stress on the legs, to better a nights rest.  With the help of natural treatments provided by a Naturopath. Changing what you eat can have a role in helping RLS. A diet that provides sufficient amounts of protein, essential fats, vitamins, and minerals may remedy the nutritional deficiencies that cause Restless Leg Syndrome.

I have seen many people who have suffered from RLS, and restless nights. And I have found that treatment to legs and feet have not only reduced symptoms for RLS suffers, but in some cases, people have reported weeks without RLS at night. This was achieve by a 60 minute massage once to twice and week,

When the sun goes down, it’s safe to say that you and your legs are in need of a well deserved sleep.
