Musculoskeletal Therapy for Sports Injuries

We have some of the most highly qualified massage therapists Brisbane has to offer with our degree qualified Musculoskeletal Therapists. Musculoskeletal Therapy combines Remedial Massage techniques with cupping, joint mobilization, dry needling, postural assessment and stretch and strenghtening advice.

Sports Injury Treatment

Sports injuries like golfers elbow or tennis elbow can be effectively treated in our clinic by our degree qualified Musculoskeletal therapists Claire and Davin. Our MSTs look at the way your body moves and assess which muscle groups may be at the cause of your sports injury. Tennis elbow is a type of tendonitis where pain radiates in the forearm and wrist. It's a common sports injury, but can also be caused by long hours on the computer. It's caused when tendons in the elbow are weakened by over using the arm, but there are usually issues with neck tightness. Our MSTs treat this by loosening the tight muscles in the forearm and neck and most importantly give you stretches and strengthening exercises to prevent reoccurrence of this painful condition.

Musculoskeletal Therapy can also help you avoid sports injuries by looking at the body as a whole and by using a series of quick tests to assess the body's mechanics and they way it moves. For example, most running injuries that occur below the knee are caused by the way the body moves above the knee., A tight muscle in the foot may cause a chain reaction pull, leading to tight hamstings and gluts and vice versa. This knowledge of the way the body moves and how to correct the cause is how MST will help you to reduce pain and get you moving well again.

Myofascial release

Myofascial release is a massage technique that is useful for treating sports injuries. It works on relaxing the tight bands of fascia that join our muscles together. If the connective tissue around the muscles becomes too tight, running, walking and everyday movements can become painful and restricted. An example where myofascial release can be helpful is for a painful foot condition called plantar fasciitis. Plantar fascitis is a common overuse injury for runners, dancers and those who spend a lot of time on their feet. Myofascial release helps sports injuries such as plantar fascitits by releasing the tight bands of fascia which restrict the correct movement of the foot.

As well as sports injuries, conditions treated with musculoskeletal therapy include:

  • muscle aches and pains
  • headaches
  • back and neck pain
  • frozen shoulder
  • tendonitis
  • osteoarthritis
  • R.S.I repetitive strain injury
