Peta Duncan - Psychologist

peta_webPeta understands the complexities and challenges that living and working in the modern world can place upon people. Every person and situation is unique. With this in mind, she works with individuals to identify realistic and achievable goals for their personal circumstances. Her passion is to support individuals to make real and lasting positive changes in their lives.

Peta has practiced as a Psychologist in Brisbane in a diverse range of settings, which include both the public and private sectors. She has experience working within Employment Services, Disability Support Services and Educational settings along with Employee Assistance Programs and Private Practice. This has allowed her to work with an equally diverse range of individuals and clinical presentations. She has worked with clients presenting with complex social and psychological needs and has extensive experience working with clients with depression, anxiety and other adjustment and emotional disorders. In addition, she has worked with clients experiencing stress and burnout, grief and trauma, conflict management and work related issues.

What to expect from your session with Peta:

“When meeting a client for the first time, my goal is to provide them with an environment that is supportive and comfortable, free from judgement, where they can explore what has brought them to seek support and identify their goals for therapy.

When working along side my clients, I draw upon the frameworks of empirically supported Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness and Interpersonal Therapy. My aim is to increase their self awareness and for them to develop a greater understanding of the driving forces motivating their current set of thinking and behavioural patterns that may be leading to emotional and psychological instability.  By developing insight, they can then start the journey towards self-discovery and begin making meaningful and long lasting changes in their lives. I believe that the goal of therapy is to empower people to become the instigators of change in their own lives.

At times life is tough, and it’s not that we don’t have the ability to meet the demands placed upon us, we just run out of the capacity to respond. Your battery becomes empty and you just can’t find the recharger! Psychological coaching is a supportive process that applies the principles of positive psychology, which is to enhance wellbeing in the absence of ill health. If you engage in this process will get the opportunity to explore your core values & beliefs, set meaningful goals and develop positive strategies to help recharge your battery, improve your resilience and reach your targets.


Peta’s qualifications and experience

Peta is a Generalist Psychologist with 16 years’ experience in the field. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), Post Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology and a Master of Educational Psychology from the University of Queensland.  She is registered with the Australia Health Practitioners Regulation Board (AHPRA) and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
