Anthea is...

Deeply curious about how people interact with the world on both a physical and emotional level, how the psyche and human body are so interwoven.

A believer in preventive health strategies as a way of life. I often use a combination of Acupuncture and body/breath exercises (Qi Gong). Both have their root in the prevention of long-term disease development. Together they increase flexibility, strength, and clarity of mind.

Committed to collaborating with other health professionals, GPs, and specialists so that clients can get optimum results.

Happy to share knowledge from an Oriental Medicine perspective that is relevant to you. Helping clients understand the framework into which their pattern fits can inform other lifestyle choices (such as exercise or dietary considerations).

Experienced in working with clients on their fertility journey. I often provide assistance with natural concepton and IVF/ART support. I also offer support for women throughout their entire pregnancy and have found that Acupuncture can really help in the final stages leading up to birth.

Trained in Japanese Acupuncture, which traditionally uses thinner needles and more specific palpation techniques to balance the natural flow of the body.

Stress & Anxiety
Stress and generalised anxiety can be difficult to manage with our busy, nonstop, modern-day lifestyles. Not only does it interfere with everyday activities, but chronic anxiety starts to cause physical stress on the body. This can have a knock-on effect for your nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, or immune systems. Acupuncture can help return your natural systems to a state of balance.

In more modern terms, this means seeking to balance your sympathetic nervous system (which activates the “flight, fight or freeze” response) with your parasympathetic nervous system (which allows for rest, relaxation and proper digestion), in order to restore health and vitality to mind and body.

Even though people often report feeling relaxed and calm when on the table, long-term lasting improvements are generally more subtle and come with repeated visits.
Fertility & Pregnancy Support

The fertility journey can be a stressful one. Whether you’re trying to conceive naturally or leaning towards Assisted Reproductive Therapies such as IVF, Acupuncture can help.

Initially, Acupuncture can assist in the reduction of any stress or inflammation that may be interfering with conception or implantation. It can also help to regulate hormones and the menstrual cycle, improve blood flow to the inner lining of the uterus and the ovaries, as well as help prevent early miscarriage.

For natural conception up to 10-12 weekly and/or fortnightly sessions are normally recommended.  However, short bursts of support around IVF cycles are also common and are generally tailored to work in with your individual protocol.

During pregnancy, Acupuncture (in combination with healthy nutrition and lifestyle) may help alleviate symptoms such as morning sickness, fatigue, mood upset, as well as back and hip pain in the later trimesters. Towards the end of the pregnancy, it can also help to create optimal conditions for a good, natural labour.

Pain Management

Acupuncture is often used in partnership with other, more conventional, therapies (such as physio or pharmaceuticals) to help relieve acute, sudden pain, as well as managing more chronic, long-standing conditions.

Fine needles are used to release any trigger points in the muscles and connective tissue, along with going to work on a deeper level to encourage the release of various internal, natural pain-killers (such as endorphins) and modulate inflammatory responses.

All treatments are tailored to you as an individual, taking a holistic approach that aims to target the presenting condition and any underlying constitutional patterns. It may help to relieve the discomfort associated with:

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches – tension or migraines
  • Neuralgia
  • Arthritis
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Hip pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tennis elbow
  • Post-operative pain
  • Stomach-ache

Acupuncture is very gentle, with few side-effects, and can be a great adjunct to any treatments in your current healthcare plan.
