Children's Osteopath Brisbane

Osteopathy is a gentle and holistic option to assess and treat musculoskeletal and nervous system related conditions in children.

Our Osteopath at Vibe Natural Health in Brisbane, Dr Emma Kopcikas, has a keen interest in assisting Brisbane children with gentle Osteopathic techniques.

Osteopaths are university trained, are qualified to diagnose musculoskeletal dysfunction and use gentle techniques, adapted to the needs of the growing bodies of children.

Common reasons why parents bring their children to see our Brisbane Osteopaths :

children's osteopath brisbaneIt is important to note that Osteopaths can only directly treat musculoskeletal conditions. Common complaints such as neck and back pain, shoulder tension, sore joints, tight muscles, and injury are an Osteopath's "bread and butter".

In some cases, Osteopathy may also have a positive effect on conditions that are not primarily musculoskeletal, but are caused by, or worsened by, tension or dysfunction in our muscles, and the way we move. While Osteopathy does not treat the conditions themselves, painful musculoskeletal symptoms related to Asthma, and some dental conditions may also be alleviated with Osteopathic care.

Headaches and migraines, for example, are often (but not always) a painful symptom of tight shoulder and neck muscles, which in turn may be compensating for dysfunctional movement in other areas of the body. Colic and poor sleep in babies can sometimes be related to muscular tension and discomfort. Something babies can't tell us about, young children can have difficulty describing, but an Osteopath is trained to recognise.

Constant, low-level pain or discomfort such as a headaches or tight leg muscles, can often leave us feeling "on-edge", and it's the same for kids. By reducing tension in the muscles and joints, Osteopathy aims to have a positive and calming effect on the nervous system. This approach may help when anxiety or restlessness becomes problematic in children (but only if muscle tension or discomfort are present) and an Osteopathic assessment will help identify potential contributing factors within the body.

If you are still unsure if Osteopathy is the right choice for your child or baby, we would be happy to arrange a free phone chat with our Osteopath on 3162 2211 so you can discuss your concerns directly with a practitioner.
